Owls Hold Down the No. 7 Position

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –After securing the 2012 Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season title, along with a 3-0 record on the week, the Oregon Tech softball team bumped up one spot to claim the No. 7 position in the seventh regular-season edition of the NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, announced today.
For the fifth-consecutive week, Concordia (Calif.) holds down the No. 1 position in the poll. The Eagles own the most victories in the NAIA this year (51-3) and earned 20 first-place votes to go along with 591 total points in the. Eight of the top 10 teams held their spots from last week.
The final regular-season Top 25 poll will be announced on May 8 by 3 p.m. CDT. In addition to the poll, the 32 national championship qualifiers will be released at the same time on www.NAIA.org. The pool play assignments and schedule will be announced on May 9 by 3 p.m. CDT on www.NAIA.org.
No. 2 Cal State San Marcos gathered 572 points to hold position for the sixth-straight week. Third-ranked Oklahoma City, with 552 points, is percentage points behind Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) leader and No. 5 Lubbock Christian (Texas). With the remaining first-place vote, No. 4 Central Baptist (Ark.) recorded 531 points. Rounding out the top five is Lubbock Christian with 516 points.
Corban University dropped two spots to No. 19, while Concordia University and College of Idaho both received votes in the latest poll.
Oregon Tech is set to host the 2012 CCC Softball Tournament, as second-seeded Concordia University faces three-seed Corban University on Friday, May 4th in a loser out matchup beginning at noon. The winner of game 1 will face Oregon Tech in a three-game series to earn the conference’s automatic bid to the 2012 NAIA Championships.
