5 Owls named to all-conference softball team

PORTLAND, Ore. – The 2010 All-Cascade Collegiate Conference softball team included three Owls on the first-team squad and two honorable mention selections, the league office announced today.

Freshmen infielder/pitcher Taylor Schmidt (Medford, Ore.) and shortstop Jess Plummer (Eugene, Ore.), along with sophomore infielder Ashleigh Larson (Central Point, Ore.) were named to the first team.  Brittany Cherry (Pasco, Wash.) and Kayde Schaefer (Portland, Ore.) were named to both the honorable mention team and were CCC Gold Glove winners for their effort on the defensive end.

Plummer led the Owls in four offensive categories, including batting (.382), doubles (16), homeruns (9), while also driving in 41 runs this season.  Schmidt batted .364 to go with 10 doubles, seven homeruns and 33 RBI.  Schmidt was also instrumental in the circle for Tech, tallying a team-high 12 victories to go along with pitching staff low 2.40 ERA.  Larson batted .358, to go with 11 doubles and seven homeruns, while driving home 32 runs.

Year, respectively, according to a vote of the league’s head coaches.  Paz, a transfer from College of the Siskiyous, also was named the CCC’s Newcomer of the Year.

 

 

Concordia coach Carrie Kosderka-Farrell, who has guided the Cavs to a record of 32-4 entering this weekend’s CCC Championships, was named the league’s Coach of the Year.

 

Northwest Christian earned the Champions of Character Award, which is based on the NAIA’s core tenets of character, integrity and sportsmanship.
