Smith Wins 100 Meter Title

Gresham, Ore. - In day two of the Cascade Conference track and field championship, Nikki Smith ran a personal best 14.81 seconds in the 100 hurdles to take the individual title at the 2009 Cascade Conference Championship. Smith picked up eight points and automatically qualifies for the NAIA national championships May 21-23 in Edwardsville, Ill.
The women's 4x100 team finished third, clocking a 50.74 second time. Kaela Ash was 8th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.46 and 4th in the long jump with a distance of 16-02.5. Brianne Kenyon also picked up a fourth place finish in the hammer with a throw of 128-06.
Kyle Gomez ran a 50.21 second 400 meter to take third and add six points to the men's total. In the men's long jump, Oregon Tech picked up an additional 16 points, as Matt Estes finished second (20-11.25), Matt Schubert third (20-10.50) and Joel Matchett seventh 20-04.25. Tech's Joe Cullen gained a 7th place finish in the 110 hurdles, crossing the line in 16.88 seconds.
Going into the final day of the CCC Championship, the Owl men sit in sixth place with 31.5 total points, while the women are currently in fifth with 35 points.
