Schelb, Matchett, Smith Claim Conference Titles

GRESHAM, Ore. - After bringing home Tech's first individual championship in the 100 hurdles on Friday, Smith won her second title in as many days, winning the 400 hurdles Saturday in 64.94 seconds. Both Sara Schelb and Joel Matchett's also turned in championship performances in the final day of the Cascade Conference Championship held at Mt. Hood Community College.
Joel Matchett helped lead the Owl men to a fifth place finish in the final standings, after he went 46-08 on his third attempt in the triple jump to win the individual title. The Owl men finished with 74.50 points for the week. Jesse Brewster followed with a 6th place finish with a distance of 46-08.
Nate Lewis finished 2nd in the high jump (6-03.25), followed by Matt Estes 4th (6-01.25). Jeff Hadley went 12-11.5 in the pole vault, finishing in 8th. Kyle Gomez, Michael McDonnell and Bryant Sentman finished the javelin with a 6th, 7th and 8th place finish.
Sarah Schelb took home the individual championship when she tossed the javelin 147-06 on her second attempt on Saturday, helping the women's team to a third place finish at the CCC championships. Blair Wilkenson followed with a throw of 132-02. The women's side gained 96 total points in the three day event.
Kaila Ash gave the Owls a 3rd place finish in the triple jump (33-10) and 4th in the long jump (16-02.5), while Kayla Swingle was sixth in both events. Tracy Filley went 5-03 in the high jump to finish 2nd, followed by Mikayla Morgan with a 4th place finish jumping 5-01 and Kelly Hawkins 8th (4-11). A 40-02.25 effort in the shot put gave Brianne Kenyon a 4th place finish, followed by a 6th place finish by Beth Fuller.
