Nehring, Sentman Claim Individual Honors at Conference Meet

GRESHAM, Ore.  – Eight meet records fell as the 2011 Cascade Collegiate Conference Track & Field Championships concluded Saturday at Earl Klapstein Stadium on the campus of Mt. Hood Community College.

The Concordia men earned their sixth consecutive team championship by the narrowest of margins. The Cavaliers held off Southern Oregon by .5 points, and the final outcome was not decided until the final event of the day. CU ended the day at 192.5 points, while the Raiders ended with 192.  Oregon Tech placed 5th with 76 points.

The Concordia women claimed their fifth consecutive championship trophy behind 11 individual champions. Eastern Oregon finished in the runner-up spot, while Oregon Tech claimed 6th with 54.5 points.

After eight more records were broken today, a total of 14 meet records fell during a weekend of outstanding competition.

Oregon Tech’s Emilee Nehring claimed her second consecutive individual championship in the long jump, going 18-05.25 to take top honors.  Breanna Burns claimed a 2nd place in the heptathlon with 3540 points.  Warner Pacific’s Danielle Rico won the two-day event with 3776 total points.  Nehring reached 5-01 in the high jump and good for a 2nd place finish, while Tracy Filley was 4th at 4-11.  Filley’s 127-00 toss in the javelin was good for 5th place, with Kassi Conditt coming up with PR 43-03.25 in the shot put.

Bryant Sentman claimed the only other individual championship with a 208-04 throw in the javelin.  Kevin Jorgensen, running his best of the season, broke the 1500 meter meet record  by over two seconds to come away with a 2nd place in 3:50.12.  Jorgensen also earned a 3rd place in the 800 meter race crossing the line in 1:52.62.  Both are NAIA auto qualifying times.  Kyle Gomez earned all-conference honors after a 3rd place finish in the 400 (49.44), while Micah Johnson went 14-03.25 in the pole vault and Rey Chavolla 11.23 in the 100-dash, both placing 4th.
