KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech kicked off “Floor the Owls” on Wednesday in a campaign to raise $150,000 for a new basketball court at the Oregon Institute of Technology campus.
A $10,000 check was donated from the OIT Foundation.
The current floor is going into its 47th year of use and was supposed to last only 35 years. Broken boards, patched areas, nails popping through, cracked finish and tape is currently covering holes on the existing floor.
The goal now is to purchase a floor for $150,000 rather than replace the existing one which would cost around $500,000. The floor being sought was used at the NCAA Division I East Regional won by University of Kentucky.
The $150,000, when raised, will cover costs including the floor, shipping and instillation.
There will be nine fundraising socials over the next four months to get the new basketball court in place by the beginning of the 2011-12 basketball season.
