Four Owls to Represent Oregon Tech at NAIA Track & Field National Meet

MARION, Ind. – Oregon Tech will have four track & field athletes represented when the 2012 NAIA Outdoor National Track and Field Championships begin tomorrow through Saturday. Along with Tech’s foursome, the Cascade Collegiate Conference will have a record 115 student-athletes competing in the three-day event.
The championships are being hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind., which will once again provide live video streaming of the championships, along with live results.

Tech’s Kirby Garlitz and Scott Minor will be competing in the marathon, while Kassi Conditt will look to better a 7th place finish in last year’s shot put competition and Joelle Swanson, in her first year at the national meet, will compete in the javelin.
In total, the CCC will be represented by 61 student-athletes in the men’s championship and 54 student-athletes in the women’s championship. The total of 115 qualifiers passes the CCC record of 109, set last year.
Concordia, which swept the men’s and women’s CCC titles again this season, leads the conference with 34 qualifiers – 19 on the men’s side and 15 on the women’s. Southern Oregon is right behind with a total of 24 qualifiers, and is followed by College of Idaho (21), Eastern Oregon (12), Northwest (8), Warner Pacific (7), Oregon Tech (4), Northwest Christian (3) and Corban (2).
The CCC has a total of 28 top-five performance marks entering the championships, including nation-leading marks in nine events, compared to four in 2011.
