KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech head men’s basketball coach Dan Miles is pleased to announce the addition of both Tyler Van Kirk and Zachery Reed to the 2012-13 recruiting class.
Van Kirk competed at Hawaii Prep Academy in Manuela, Hawaii where the 6-4 forward averaged 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Ka Makani. For his efforts this past season Van Kirk was a first-team All-Big Island recipient in basketball, leading his team to the semifinals in Division II postseason action. Along with basketball, Van Kirk was also a First-Team All-State recipient in volleyball.
“We are excited to have Tyler join us next year,” said Miles. “He is an excellent student-athlete and look forward to watching him excel at Oregon Tech over the next four years.”
Reed played at 5A Eagle Point High School (Southern Oregon Hybrid League) under the tutelage of head coach Brian Wood. The 6-9 post averaged 16 points and five rebounds for the Eagles, earning SOH honorable mention accolades.
“Zack completes an outstanding recruiting year for us,” mentioned Miles. “He will play a big part in keeping our program at an elite level.”
Zack is the second post player Tech has landed during the recruiting year, as Bryan Beard (6-10) of Pendleton High School signed on earlier this season.
Perennial powerhouse, Oregon Tech, is coming off a third NAIA II National Championship in 2012 under veteran coach Danny Miles, also earning the crown in 2004 and 2008.
