Tech Soccer Squads Picked 7th in Preseason Poll
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Both the Oregon Tech women's and men’s soccer teams were selected seventh in the 2012 Cascade Collegiate Conference coaches' preseason poll, announced recently by the conference office. The Owl women tallied 32 points, while the men’s squad earned 19.
Both Tech teams will be led by first year head coaches as the 2012 campaign begins on Friday, August 31st.

The Concordia men, who have won 12 of the last 14 conference titles, including eight of the last nine, are the coach’s choice to defend their title from 2011. Northwest (Wash.) was picked to finish second, followed by Corban. Warner Pacific (Ore.), Evergreen (Wash.), and College of Idaho were only separated by five points in the poll in the fourth, fifth, and sixth spots. Oregon Tech and Northwest Christian rounded out the poll.
The Cavalier women, winners of 14 of the last 15 regular season conference titles, including the 2011 regular season and CCC tournament titles, earned all 10 first-place votes and totaled 100 points in the conference’s preseason ranking. Concordia was followed by Southern Oregon (84), and last year’s conference tournament runner-up, Northwest (Wash.), which totaled 79 points. The Eagles were followed by Corban (71), College of Idaho (62), Warner Pacific (40), Oregon Tech (32), Evergreen (31), Eastern Oregon (30), and Northwest Christian (21).

The Tech men’s soccer team, and first year head coach Matt Munhall, will look to improve on a 5-11-1 overall mark when they open the 2012 season. The Owls begin the campaign at Linfield College on Friday, August 31st
and at George Fox on Saturday, September 1st
. Two of the final four games of a six-game road swing are conference affairs, beginning with Northwest University on Friday, September 14th
and at The Evergreen State College the following day. Tech opens the 2012 home schedule with a conference game versus Warner Pacific College on Wednesday, September 19th
at 6 p.m.
Mike Hedlund, spending the past three seasons as an assistant at Oregon Tech, takes over a women’s soccer program that just came off a 5-9-1 overall mark and 3-6-0 record in Cascade Collegiate Conference play in 2011. With six of their first nine games on the road, the Owl women open at NCAA II Western Oregon University on Friday, August 31st and then face NCAA III George Fox University the following day in Newberg, Ore. Tech will open their home slate with a non-conference contest with Trinity Lutheran at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 17th before beginning Cascade Collegiate Conference action at home versus Northwest University and The Evergreen State College on September 28th and 29th.
All home soccer games for both sides will be played at the Steen Sports Complex.
