Oregon Tech Men 5th, Women 7th in CCC Cross Country Preseason Poll
LA GRANDE, Ore. - – The Oregon Tech men’s cross country team is coming into the 2013
season with several new runners, to go with two returnees that competed
at last year’s NAIA national championship, and was picked mid-pack in
the 2013 preseason conference coaches’ poll. The women, after finishing 7th at last year’s conference championship, are again predicted for a 7th place finish this season.
On the men’s side, defending champion Southern Oregon University is predicted to repeat as victor at the 2013 Cascade Conference Cross Country Championship. Earning nine of 10 first-place votes, the College of Idaho Coyotes are the clear favorite to repeat as 2013 Cascade Conference women’s cross country champions.
The Raider men, who spent the entire regular season ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Top 25, won the 2012 title by 34 points. Eastern Oregon (81 points) is predicted to finish second at the CCC Championships. College of Idaho was selected third with 78 points while Concordia was just a point back at fourth at 77 points.
Oregon Tech with 60 points was picked fifth in the coaches’ poll, followed by Northwest Christian (54 points) in sixth. Corban (38 points) was seventh while Northwest and Warner Pacific were tied for eighth (26 points). Evergreen rounded out the poll in 10th (10 points.).
Following C of I on the women’s side was Northwest Christian with 86 points. Eastern Oregon (69 points) edged out Concordia (67 points) for third in the preseason ranking while Southern Oregon (63 points) took fifth, including the last remaining first-place vote. Northwest (60 points) was picked sixth, followed by Oregon Tech with 43 points. Corban, Warner Pacific and Evergreen rounded out the final three CCC teams.
The CCC Championships are set for Nov. 9 at Brothers Park in Caldwell Idaho, beginning at 11 a.m. Mountain Standard Time.
