Oregon Tech Falls to Viterbo in Three

ASHLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech hit for just a .055 clip in their second match today, as Viterbo University, Wisc. handed the Owls their second loss, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-9) at the Paul Elliott Invitational hosted by Southern Oregon University. Oregon Tech (0-2) fell in three sets earlier to Westminster University.
Oregon Tech plays UC-Merced Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and then faces Biola University at 6 p.m. to close out the classic tournament.
Aurora Penoyar led the Tech attack with 10 kills, while Kayleigh Whelchel added 15 assists. Marie Baumann finished with 12 digs, followed by Kara Young with 11.
Oregon Tech opened the match with a 4-2 lead, but VU went on a 12-4 run to take a comfortable six point advantage on the way to a 25-17 win.
In set 2 it was all Viterbo from the start taking an early 6-1lead. Oregon Tech closed to within two points on four occasions, before finally trailing by just one, 19-18. The Owls would get no closer as VU took set 2 by a 25-21 final.
In set 3 Oregon Tech trailed 14-4 before closing to single digits, 14-6, after back-to-back points. Viterbo would gain back all the moment scoring the next two, including 9 of the next 12 to take the set and match, 25-9.
