Oregon Tech Falls in Five to Concordia

ASHLAND, Ore. (Aug. 21, 2009) - The Oregon Tech volleyball team dropped a tough five set decision to Concordia University in day one of the Southern Oregon Invitational (25-21, 13-25, 25-20, 17-25, 15-11). The Owls sit at 0-2 on the season, while the Cavaliers improved to 1-1.
Last year conference honorable mention selection, Megan Christensen (Jr. Klamath Falls, Ore.), finished in double digit kills with a match-high 15 to lead the Owl offense. Miranda Weitz (Pullman, Wash.) tallied 9 kills and picked up 3 digs. Newcomer Christine Bansen (Fr. Monmouth, Ore.) was solid with 7 kills and 9 digs, while transfer Porsha Ellison (Jr. Salem, Ore.) and Mikayla Morgan (Jr. Klamath Falls, Ore.) tallied 5 kills each. Sarah Svedin (So. Palmer, Ala.) finished with 23 assists, followed by sophomore setter Jackie Polette (Helena, Mont.) with 13. Joey Larsen added a match-high 27 digs with Paige Wallachy (Corvallis, Ore.) following with a career-high 12 digs.
Tech will play host and rival Southern Oregon University in the final day of the SOU Invitational Saturday at 2:00 pm before a trip to the Point Loma Invitational next weekend in San Diego.
