MERCED, Calif. – Oregon Tech’s five-match win streak came to a halt, as the Owls fell to Menlo College, along to host UC-Merced in a pair of see-saw affairs on Saturday.  The Owls dropped this morning’s first match to Menlo College 3-2, (25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 14-25, 10-15) and then fell to host UC-Merced in five sets 3-2, (18-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-21, 15-10) to conclude tournament play.

In Match 1, Senior outside hitter Kristen Walters led the Owls offensively with 14 kills, while Marlee Smith recorded Tech’s only double-double in the match with 11 kills and 14 digs.  Kara Young continues to impress, as the freshman was a kill shy of a second double-double, with 9 kills and 17 digs.  Setter Kayleigh Whelchel finished with a team-high 40 assists with libero Marie Baumann adding a match-high 27 digs.

In today’s final match, Walters, Smith and Aurora Penoyar tallied double digit kills with 14, 12 and 10 respectively.  Megan Holland and Kayleigh Whelchel added 4 aces each, with Whelchel coming up with a match-high 40 assists.  Baumann and Smith would finish with 15 kills each to anchor Tech’s defense.
