Tech’s Whelchel Named Conference Setter of the Week, Baumann Earns HM

La GRANDE, Ore. - Oregon Tech’s Kayleigh Whelchel, a junior from Sheridan, Ore, has been named the Red Lion Setter of the Week for the period ending Aug. 26.

Whelchel finished the weekend with 182 assists, including a career-high 51 against Simpson University. Whelchel averaged 7.91 assists per set during the Owls’ five matches over the weekend.
Oregon Tech junior, Marie Baumann, received conference libero honorable mention accolades after her performance over the week. Baumann ranks in the NAIA’s top-25 in digs/set. Baumann recorded 100 defensive digs during four matches played, including a career-high 37 in win at Simpson.
Oregon Tech finished 3-2 on the week including 2-2 at the UC-Merced Invitational over the weekend. Oregon Tech (6-5) will host Cal Pac foe William Jessup University this Saturday at 1 p.m. before opening Cascade Conference play at Southern Oregon University on Tuesday, September 4th in Ashland.
