Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Wildcats of Linfield College scored two first half goals and then held on to down Oregon Tech 2-1 Friday afternoon at Trevor Derrah Field. Linfield improves to 3-0 on the season with the win and will play Walla Walla University at 8:00 pm Saturday night in Klamath Falls. The Hustlin’ Owls slip to 0-2 on the season and will play Pacific University at 5:00 pm Saturday. Both games will be played at Trevor Derrah Field at Steen Sports Park.
Linfield wasted no time in getting on the board as Tyler Repic took a Brian Degrandmont cross and chipped the ball past the Oregon Tech keeper for a 1 -0 lead just four minutes into the game.
Jake Baker then sent a nice cross to the 12 yard mark centered in front of the OIT goal. Eric Conte settled the pass and scored with a booming shot that deflected off the goalie’s hands for a 2-0 lead in the 27th minute. Linfield would carry that lead into the half.
After the break, Oregon Tech seemed to play with more purpose on offense and in the 70th minute were rewarded with their first goal of the season. Jackson Wold attempted a shot from 15 yards out and the ball hit the cross bar. That is when Tech’s Michael Imada took the rebound and headed the ball into the back of the net making it a 2-1 game.
The game went back and forth over the next 20 minutes but Linfield held on for the 2-1 win.
Linfield held a big edge in shots at 23-13 and had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Oregon Tech keeper Loren Jessen was credited with three saves, picking up the loss.
Wold led the OIT offense with 4 shots, one on frame.
