Oregon Tech Falls to Warner Pacific in Four

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech battled back from an 0-2 deficit to win set 3, but Warner Pacific used a 11-2 run in set 4 to earn a Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball victory tonight 3-1, (25-18, 25-22, 19-25, 25-13).
After Tech took an early lead in set 1, Warner Pacific strung together eight-straight to take a commanding 10-4 lead. The Owls would battle back to within four points, 14-18, but the Knights would move on for a 25-18 win in the opener.
Trailing 16-11 in set 2, Oregon Tech used a pair of Marlee Smith kills, while Kara Young added another to pull within a single point, 15-16. The see-saw battle ensued as the teams remained tied at 21-21. The home team, however, proved too much, as the Knights would score four of the next five points to earn a 25-22 win and move up 2-0.
Set 3 went back-and-forth as the game would see eight ties, the last at 17-17 before the Owls would take control. The Owls used a Megan Holland ace to move ahead, while Kara Young followed with two more to put Tech up 23-18. A Marlee Smith kill moved Tech to set point with an ace by Marie Baumann to help take set 3, 25-18.
Tech once again found themselves down, this time 14-8 in set 4 before the Owls climbed back to within four points, 14-11, behind three-straight WPC attack errors. It was all Knights from that point, as the home team closed out the set on an 11-2 spurt to take the set 25-13 and earn the victory.
Freshman Marlee Smith had an impressive outing finishing with a match-high 17 kills while hitting at a .351 clip. Kara Young added 12 kills and 9 digs with Megan Holland coming up with 31 assists and Marie Baumann 27 digs in the loss for Tech.
Oregon Tech falls to 7-8 overall and is now 0-3 in the CCC standings.
Oregon Tech will host their first conference matches of the season when the Owls welcome College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon University this Friday and Saturday to Danny Miles Court.
