Owls Struggle in Loss to Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho had a decisive 43-18 edge in kills, as the No. 11 ranked Lady Yotes made quick work of Oregon Tech, 25-15, 25-10, 25-9, before a boisterous crowd of 440 in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

Oregon Tech fell to 1-10 on the season and 0-3 in conference play. The victory for the Lady Yotes (6-1, 3-0 CCC) extended their overall win streak to six and their Cascade Conference home streak to 36.

The Owls (1-10, 0-3) struggled to get into system all night, recording 21 hitting errors and a negative hitting percentage (-.033). Megan Christensen had six kills and six digs in the loss, with Sarah Svedin recording ten assists. Christine Bansen, Mikayla Morgan and Porsha Ellison added three kills each, with Joey Larsen adding six digs and Svedin five.

Kathryn Ely and Marcella Hernandez had five kills in the Set 1 win, as the Yotes recorded the final four points of the period. Set 2 saw C of I use a 10-1 push midway through the period, keyed by three Kristin Henning kills, to pull away from a 12-7 lead. The finale saw the Coyotes rattle off 13-straight points on Whitney Owen's serve, including three Hernandez spikes.

Hernandez and Jessie Link each had eight kills to lead the balanced attack, with Madie Machurek and Naomi Reimer each recording 16 assists. Whitney Owen had 15 digs and two aces in the victory.

Oregon Tech travels to La Grande to play Eastern Oregon University tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
