CALDWELL, Idaho – The Oregon Tech volleyball team fell to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play after a three set loss (29-27, 25-17, 25-17) to No. 8 ranked The College of Idaho (8-0, 5-1 CCC).
Set 1 was a marathon, as the Owls rallied from a 20-16 deficit with four-straight points - tying the score on back-to-back Mindy Nalder aces. Tech would have a pair of set points at 24-23 and 25-24, but a Kylee Nawahine kill and a Coyote combo-block got the hosts much needed side outs. Tied at 27-27, the Yotes got kills from Torrey Hulsey and Ciciley Fox to grab the win.
Set 2 saw OIT grab an early 6-3 lead, only to watch the Coyotes rattle off seven of the next eight points to take the lead for good, extending the margin to 18-11 on a Hulsey spike, running away for the 2-0 set lead. The final set saw Nawahine log three kills in an early 15-8 run to take command to put away the Owls.
Mindy Nalder led the Owl offense with 10 kills, followed by Kai Evans-Bautista with seven. Krystie Vea came away with a team-high 14 digs, while setter Sarah Svedin and outside hitter Joey Parnell added seven digs each. Svedin recorded a team-high 26 assists and Parnell finished with five kills respectively.
Oregon Tech will look to split the weekend, as the Owls travel to Eastern Oregon University (5-0 CCC), upset winners in a sweep tonight over No. 13 ranked Southern Oregon University (3-1 CCC), Saturday in La Grande.
