SALEM, Ore. - The Oregon Tech volleyball team battled hard tonight but it was Corban College that came away with the victory, as the Owls fell in three close sets 26-24, 28-26, 25-22 inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
The loss snapped a nine-match win streak for Oregon Tech, as the Owls fell to 3-12 overall and 2-5 in conference play. Corban moves to 4-10 on the season and 3-3 in the conference standings.
Oregon Tech had opportunities to put each of the three sets away, but Corban came up with rallies at the end of all three sets. The Owls held their largest lead of the night in set one at 18-13, but a five point rally by the Warriors tied the contest at 18-18. After a 24-24 tie, the Warriors put away the final two balls to win 26-24.
After a see-saw battle in set two that included 13 ties, the last at 26-26, it was Corban that once again came away with the final two points to win 28-26.
Set three was more of the same, as both teams were again tied at the end of the set, this time at 22-22. Corban once again had the Owls number, gaining the last three points to take the set and match 25-22.
Oregon Tech outside hitter Megan Christensen finished the night with a match-high 15 kill effort, while also picking up 11 digs in the loss. Mikayla Morgan added eight kills with Christine Bansen and Joey Larsen tallying seven kills each. Sarah Svedin led Tech with 12 digs, followed by Christensen and Larsen with 10.
Oregon Tech will look to get back on track when the Owls visit Northwest Christian University tomorrow in Eugene. Match time will begin at 5 pm.
