Oregon Tech Announces Winter Basketball Schedules

10.06.2010

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore – The Oregon Tech athletic department recently announced the upcoming 2010-11 winter sports schedule for both men’s basketball and women’s basketball.

The Oregon Tech men’s basketball team put together a record season last year, winning the 2009-10 Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season title with a 15-3 record, while also securing back-to-back CCC Tournament titles.  The 2009-10 squad was the first Cascade Conference school to win both the league championship and tournament championship twice, and did it in back-to-back seasons.

Tech lost five players off last year’s Cascade Conference Championship team that included CCC Player of the Year and First Team NAIA All-American Justin Parnell, along with CCC honorable mention selection Myles Daley.  The Owls also lost Joel Matchett, shooter and defender Mike Nieraeth and the inside scoring and rebounding of Andy Siverly. Tech will return one starter to the hardwood this season and hopes for another title run will lie with returnees Joseph Foster (CCC first-team all-conference, NAIA HM All-American) and floor leader, Scotty Riddle.  Senior Brent Johnson will be a key player on the inside, while David Clarke and Kyle Gomez will bring great experience to the mix.

The 2010-11 Hustlin’ Owls are set to begin a 30-game schedule, including 17 contests at the friendly confines of Danny Miles Court, where the Owls have put together two-straight undefeated seasons.  The Owls play 16 home contests, including seven non-conference games to go with nine league games. The Owls head into the new season with a school-record 38 straight wins at home and open up the 2010-11 campaign with back-to-back home games beginning Friday, November 5th versus Multnomah University at 7 p.m., and then will turn around and play the same opponent on Saturday with the tip-off set at 2 p.m.  Cascade Collegiate Conference action will begin in Portland with games against Warner Pacific College and Concordia University on December 3rd and December 4th. During the first half of league play the men will tip off at 5:30 p.m., while the women are set to begin play at 7:30 p.m.

Under the tutelage of first year head women’s basketball coach, Scott Meredith, the Oregon Tech women’s basketball team managed their eight-straight appearance in the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament last season.

The Owls turned in a 15-16 overall mark, while finishing 8-10 in the league standings in 2010. The 8-10 CCC record helped the Owls to a fifth place finish during the regular season, improving two places over the 2009 season.

Second year head coach Scott Meredith returns five players from last season, including all-conference forward Brittany Cherry.  Morgan Hofman, along with Colleen Hunt, will bring leadership at the guard position, while post player Aundrea Albright is coming off an impressive sophomore year after averaging 8.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in 2010. Jazzy McDaniel ranked no. 30 in the country in blocked shots (1.67/game), while ending the year averaging 5.5 points and 5.2 rebounds.

Meredith added California All-State Junior College transfer Crissy Watts to the roster, while Oregon 4A Player of the Year, Kassi Conditt, will add rebounding, scoring and defense in the post position.  Other notable recruits include a freshman class of Karissa Dixon, Kiana Caban and Mariah Karther-Miller, along with junior Jana Parker. Junior college transfers bringing experience to the floor include Kaitlin Nielsen and Kara Miller.

Because of a scheduling conflict on the team’s three-game road trip to open the 2010-11 campaign, Tech will now host Pacific Union on Sunday, November 7th with the tip-off set at 2 p.m.  The Owls open Cascade Conference play in Portland versus Warner Pacific College and Concordia University on December 3rd and December 4th.  During the first half of league play the women will begin action at 7:30 p.m., while the men’s tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
