Southern Oregon Sweeps by Oregon Tech

ASHLAND, Ore. – Southern Oregon used a 7-0 run in the opener to set the tone and dominated play as the No. 16 Raiders swept Oregon Tech 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) in Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball action Wednesday night at Bob Riehm Arena.
Oregon Tech falls to 10-9 overall and 4-8 in conference play after the loss, while the win improved the Raiders to 13-4 overall and 10-2 in the CCC.
Southern Oregon scored the first three points of the opening set, but Oregon Tech tied it up at 6-6 on a four-point streak. The Raiders used a seven-point streak to pull away, closing the set on a 19-6 run to earn the set victory at 25-12 on an OIT attack error.
The Raiders opened the second set with another three-point advantage, eventually stretching their lead to 7-2. Oregon Tech pulled within four points at 11-7, but SOU scored the next two points and the Owls never got closer than five points back the rest of the set.
The Owls found themselves in a familiar position down 3-0 early in the third set, and SOU eventually stretched the lead to 11-5 on a SOU block. But Oregon Tech used a 6-1 run to pull within one point at 12-11 on Sarah Svedin's service ace, and the Owls hung close until late in the set. With SOU leading 18-17, back-to-back kills helped spark a 7-1 Raider run to clinch the 25-18 set victory and earn the 3-0 match win.
For Oregon Tech, Parnell led the Owls with seven kills, with Mindy Nalder adding six in the loss. Svedin finished with a match-high 21 assists, and Krystie Vea's 10 digs led the team.
Oregon Tech is idle this weekend and will resume CCC action at home versus Northwest Christian University on Friday, October 21st and Saturday, October 22nd, against Corban University. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. at Danny Miles Court.
