Owls Roll Past NCU

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Megan Christensen notched a match-high 19 kills to help Oregon Tech to a three set sweep over Northwest Christian University 25-16, 25-17, 25-19 tonight in Cascade Conference volleyball action. The Owls move to 5-18 on the season and 4-11 in CCC action. NCU drops to 6-19 and 1-15 in the conference standings.
The Owls started set 1 with six-straight points, only to see NCU cut the deficit in half with three-straight of their own.
A Megan Christensen spike got the Owls back on track, and three-straight kills by Joey Larsen gave the Owls momentum and a 12-6 lead. Tech would go up 18-11, and back-to-back Mikayla Morgan smashes would propel Tech to a 25-16 win.
The Owls jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in set 2. The Beacons clawed back to within four points, 13-9. Three straight by the home team would give Oregon Tech a 16-9 advantage. The Beacons again fought back to close the set at 17-13.
The Owls once again put together three-straight and go up 20-13, eventually moving to a 25-17 win.
The Beacons jumped out to their first lead of the match, 4-0, before the Owls could put a point on the board. Tech would then move on to a 9-5 lead, but the Beacons would tie it with four-straight points, 9-9.
After a 13-13 tie, the Owls strung together six-straight to go up 19-13. Tech would not let the Beacons get any closer, taking the set and match 25-19.
Christensen came up with five digs and three block assists to go with 19 kills. Joey Larsen added five kills, while Miranda Weitz and Mikayla Morgan combined for six kills. Morgan led the Owl defense with 11 digs, with Paige Wallachy gathering seven.
Taylor Hatleberg led NCU with a team-high 12 kills, while Cassie Bishop tallied eight. Libero Mercedes LeClaire finished with a match-high 13 digs, while Whitney Hoff came away with eight.
Oregon Tech will host Corban College tomorrow at 5:30 pm at Danny Miles Court, in what will be the final home match of the 2009 season.
