Corban Knocks Off Owls in Three

SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon Tech volleyball team held leads in each of tonight’s three sets, but it was Corban University that came through at crunch time to defeat the Owls tonight in Cascade Conference action 25-23, 25-20, 25-23.
Oregon Tech returns to Danny Miles Court for their final two matches of the season with an overall 11-17 mark and drop in the CCC standings to 3-13.
After taking a 16-10 lead in set 1, Corban answered with six straight points to tie it up. Oregon Tech bounced back to lead 22-20, but three straight Warrior points gave the home team a 23-22 advantage. The Owls tied it up at 23-23, but Corban would take the final two points to win the opener 25-23.
Oregon Tech opened up with the first two points in set 2 before Corban moved out to a 13-8 advantage. The Owls chipped away at the deficit to finally move to within two points, 18-16, but a five point run by the Warriors carried over to a 25-20 victory to move up 2-0 in the match.
Oregon Tech would take their largest lead in set 3, 17-10. The Owls, however, could not maintain the advantage, as a 13-6 Corban run tied the set at 23-23. The Warrior momentum would continue to carry over, as the final to points gave the home team the set, 25-23, and match.
Megan Christensen and Kristen Walters tied for team-high honors with nine kills, while Walters added four aces in Saturday’s loss. Mikayla Morgan followed with eight kills respectively. Kayleigh Whelchel had 22 assists, followed by Sarah Svedin with 12, while Marie Baumann tying a match-high with 14 digs.
