Walla Walla, Wash. – After a sluggish start to the 2011-12 season opener, the Oregon Tech women’s basketball team broke open a tie midway through the first half and defeated Walla Walla University 79-31 Saturday night.

The Owls (1-0) will complete the two game series against WWU Sunday at noon.

Rebekah Matteri, fresh off the soccer field, finished with a team-high 13 points and four rebounds.  Jazzy McDaniel, back after a redshirt season last year, grabbed six rebounds and netted 11 points in the win for the Owls.  Five other Tech players scored seven or more points, including nine points and a team-high four steals from Kiana Caban.  Aundrea Albright led Tech with eight rebounds, while Maria Ramirez handed out five assists.
