Owls Take Down Simpson in Day 1 of SOU Classic

ASHLAND, Ore. – Leading by just two points, Oregon Tech used an 11-0 second half run to pull away from from Cal Pac member Simpson University to claim an 89-68 victory in game 2 of the Southern Oregon University Classic this afternoon.
Oregon Tech moves to 7-1 overall with the win and will face Hope Christian University on day 2 of the SOU Classic beginning at 3:30 PM.
Bobby Hunter recorded a game-high 28 points to go with five rebounds in the win for Tech. Bryant Sentman followed with 21 points, while David Clarke added 10 points and a game-high seven assists. Josh Johnson and Kyle Gomez combined for 16 points and six assists.
It looked like the fourth-rated Hustlin’ Owls were going to blow out Simpson early, leading 43-25 with 3:42 to play in the first half. Simpson, however, strung together 14 straight to close out the first half scoring with Oregon Tech leading just 43-39 at the half.
Simpson managed to pull to within a basket, 47-45, but an 11-0 run pushed the Owl lead to 58-45 with just under 12 minutes remaining to play. Tech then took their first 20 point lead, 75-55, with five minutes on the clock, and would take their largest lead of 24 before settling for the 89-68 win.
