No. 6 Oregon Tech Surges Past NCU

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – An Oregon Tech 17-4 second half run turned a three point lead into a 16 point advantage to eventually take down Northwest Christian University by an 80-55 final tonight in Cascade Conference action at Danny Miles Court.
No. 6 Oregon Tech improves to 10-1 on the season and now sits at 2-0 in the conference standings. NCU drops to 5-6 on the year and 0-2 in CCC play. The Owls now own a 63 game home win streak.
NCU held Oregon Tech to just six points over the first seven minutes of play before Tech would tie the game at 14-14 with 8:38 remaining in the opening half.
The Beacons then went up 22-17 before the Hustlin’ Owls owned a 23-22 lead with five minutes remaining. Tech would continue to add to the lead taking a 34-27 score into the half.
Tech would move up by 12 points, 42-30, but the Owls could not shake the visitors easily, as the Beacons drew to within three points, 45-42, with 13:22 on the clock.
The Hustlin’ Owls proved no match over the next five minutes of play, as a 17-4 run turned into an 80-55 victory when the final horn sounded.
Four Owls finished in double figures led by a game-high 20 from Kyle Gomez. Bobby Hunter recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to go with his game-high six assists. Jason Gamblin was a rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds with David Clarke adding 12 points and five assists in the win for the Owls.
Mitchell Wilson and Brian Hampton led the Beacon offense with 12 points each, followed by Trevor Parker with 11. Jordan Buhler and Brody McGowan added nine points each and combined for eight rebounds.
Oregon Tech hit on 50% of their tries (30-for-60), while holding NCU down to just 30.6% from the field on the evening. Tech held a 47-33 advantage on the boards with the Owls hitting on 15-of-20 from the charity stripe and NCU 14-for-20.
