Hustlin’ Owls Rout Northwest Christian, 75-49
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The No. 5 ranked Hustlin’ Owls buckled down on defense in the second half to help knock off Northwest Christian University 75-49 in Cascade Conference play tonight at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech improves to 13-3 on the season and 4-2 in the conference standings. NCU is now 10-7 on the season and 2-3 in CCC play.
Oregon Tech would lead by six points only two minutes in, but a scrappy NCU squad would fight back to tie the game at 16-16 with 12:35 remaining in the opening period.
Joseph Foster capped a 10-2 Owl run with a trey with 6:24 on the clock to give Oregon Tech a 26-18 lead.
NCU then strung together five straight to cut the Owl advantage to 26-23 with just over four minutes to play.
Justin Parnell finished off an Owl 9-1 run when he was fouled on a shot and made good on a conventional three-point play to give Tech a 35-24 edge with only four ticks on the clock.
Ben Voogd then took the inbounds pass down the court and let fly a 30-foot runner at the buzzer that hit nothing but net, as the Owls held a 35-27 advantage at intermission.
It was all Tech in the second stanza. Justin Parnell jump started the period with a jumper to give Tech their first double digit lead of the half. An ensuing 15-6 Owl run put the game away with Oregon Tech leading 54-33 with 12:20 to play. The Hustlin’ Owl would then lead by as many as 29 points on two occasions before settling for a 75-49 win.
Four Owls finished in double figures led by a 20 point effort from Joseph Foster. Justin Parnell added 13 points, nine assists and five rebounds. Myles Daley and Kyle Gomez netted 10 points each in the win.
Ben Voogd finished with 19 points, six rebounds and six assists in the loss for the Beacons. Cameron Marshall added nine points, and Andrew Miller and Quentin Guidry five each.
