KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A Derek Evans 3-pointer at the midway half of the first period gave Oregon Tech a lead they would not relinquish, as the second-ranked Hustlin’ Owls ran past Multnomah University by an 86-64 count tonight in non-conference basketball action at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech moves to 4-1 on the season, while Multnomah University fell to 2-6 on the year.
A 23-5 run closed out the first half with the Owls on top. A long triple from Mihajlo Matic with 2:37 remaining in the opening period gave Tech their first double digit lead, while Alex Zerbach connected for a 3-pointer in the corner at the buzzer giving the Owls their largest lead, as Oregon Tech went to intermission up 19 points, 46-27.
An 11-5 run over the first five minutes of the second period drew the visiting Lions to within 13 points, as Multnomah kept the same margin, 58-45, at the midway point of period 2.
A 21-5 run by the Hustlin’ Owls pushed the home team out to a 79-50 lead with Tech holding on the 29 point margin with 2:27 remaining in the game. Multnomah closed the game on a 10-3 run, as the Owls settled for the 86-64 victory.
Mihajlo Matic led the Owls with 18 points, followed by David Clarke with 15 points to go with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Not to be out-sung, and close to a double-double, was Josh Wiseman finishing with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds was sophomore post Josh Johnson with Dani Lopez adding 10 boards in the win tonight.
Oregon Tech finished with a34-74 effort from the floor (45.9%), while the Lions recorded 44.6% shooting (25-56). Oregon Tech held a 49-23 advantage on the boards, including 25 on the offensive end.
Austin Hodges led all scorers with a game-high 25 points, while David Walker added 14 and Steven Sansone 12 points in the loss for the Lions.
