Kansas City, Mo. – For the first time in nearly 8 years, the Hustlin’ Owls of Oregon Tech are not ranked in the NAIA Top 25 as OIT had its streak of 90-consecutive Top 25 poll appearances snapped (dating back to Jan. 11, 2005) Oregon Tech is in the "receiving votes" category at No. 27.
Northwood (Fla.) claims the No. 1 position in the first regular season edition of the 2012 - 13 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, announced Tuesday by the national office. The Seahawks were the unanimous decision and received 312 total points. On its early-season 4-0 start, Northwood has won by an average of more than 30 points. With the top ranking, No. 1 Northwood (Fla.) has now been either No. 1 or 2 in each of the last 21 polls dating back to the 2010 - 11 season... Embry-Riddle (Fla.) owns the most No. 1 rankings since 2000 with 17; Oregon Tech is next with 15, followed by Northwood, Oklahoma Wesleyan and former NAIA member Walsh (Ohio) at 12 mentions each... Northwood now holds the longest active streak of being ranked with 54-consecutive mentions and right behind is Davenport (Mich.) with 38-straight.
Four Cascade Conference Schools are ranked in the Top 25 they are; Eastern Oregon at No. 4, Warner Pacific at No. 13, Southern Oregon at No. 16 and Northwest at No. 20.
