Late Game Push Gets No. 7 Southern Oregon by Oregon Tech

ASHLAND – After 19 ties and 11 lead changes in tonight’s Cascade Conference men’s basketball contest, Oregon Tech was unable to weather a late-game rally, as the Hustlin’ Owls fell to rival Southern Oregon University by an 86-74 final at Bob Riehm Arena in Ashland.

Oregon Tech would go up by their largest margin of five points after Duncan Schramm connected from long range at the 6:58 mark of the first period to put Tech up 30-25.  Southern Oregon would close out the half, however, on an 18-12 spurt to take a one point lead, 43-42, into the intermission.

The team’s would see-saw over the first seven minutes of the second half before the Raiders pushed ahead to take control.  Tech, leading 58-57, would see SOU go on a 14-4 run to put the home team up 71-62, and in control for good. The Owls would hold possession down six points with 1:35 to play, but a 3-point attempt fell short and Tech never got closer falling by the 86-74 final.

Duncan Schramm, on 6-of-8 shooting, including 2-for-3 from long range, led the Owls with 14 points.  Derek Evans, finishing 5-of-8 from the field, added 13 points for Tech.  Kyle Waits chipped in 12 points, followed by 10 points from Austen Flint.

SOU went 27-for-60 from the field compared to OIT's 28-for-57, but the Raiders held a 27-12 edge at the free-throw line.

Head Coach Danny Miles will look to achieve career-wins 999 and 1,000 this weekend when his Hustlin’ Owls host both Eastern Oregon University and No. 21 The College of Idaho this Friday and Saturday.  Tip-off for both contests begin at 7:30 p.m.
