Oregon Tech Splits NAIA West Doubleheader at Concordia

PORTLAND— Oregon Tech’s BJ Wilson scattered six hits over nine innings to help the Owls to a 3-2 victory in game 1, while the Owls fell by the same 3-2 score in game 2, as Tech split today’s NAIA West doubleheader played at Porter Park today. The Cavaliers took the series 3-1 over OIT.

With the results, Oregon Tech moved to 8-15 and 1-3 in the NAIA West Grouping, with Concordia now at 10-11 on the season and 3-1 in league play.

Game 1—Oregon Tech 3, Concordia 2

Oregon Tech claimed its first game of the series against Concordia in the opener, winning 3-2 on the back of a complete game from starting pitcher BJ Wilson. Wilson had a shutout through the first eight innings of the game as the Cavs notched a pair of runs in the final inning. Wilson held on to earn the victory.

OIT first took the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh. OIT's runs broke up what had been a solid game from CU starter Alex Bos, who had eight strikeouts and a shutout before running into trouble in the seventh.

Tech’s Ryan Hayden started the rally doubling down the left-field line to plate teammate Tyson Dahl for the first run of the game. Hayden's double left OIT runners on second and third, and the Cavs intentionally walked Dylan Rogers to load the bases after that. Aaron Bocchi was the first to face Evetts, in for relief for Bos, and reached after his sacrifice fly to left was dropped in the Cavalier outfield. OIT's Spencer Reed then followed with another sacrifice fly—this one caught—to bring home the Hustlin' Owls' third and final run of the ball game.

OIT stranded five runners on base before scoring in the seventh, while the Cavs stranded eight runners on base before they scored in the ninth. OIT's defense helped frustrate the Cavs offensively as they turned three double plays in the game.

Rogers led OIT overall in the first game, going 3-for-4 from the plate.

Game 2—Tech was looking to split the series, leading 2-1 early on, but was shut out over the next 6.1 innings, as CU’s Austin Hadley gave up only two hits in his 6.1 innings of work, while striking out six.

The Cavalier offense, meanwhile, gave Hadley all the runs he'd need when they scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take back the lead, 3-2. The game would end by the same margin.

Six different players recorded the Owls’ six hits in the game, with Dustin Norman and Jared Nelson driving in single runs for the Owls in the loss.
