Owls Gain Depth, Add Seven to Cross Country and Track and Field

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Oregon Tech cross country and track and field Head Coach Jack Kegg recently announced the addition of seven newcomers to both the 2012 cross country and 2013 track and field teams. The men’ side added five with the women adding a pair.
Sean Crompton (Hood River, Ore.), Nathan Shirey (Kapolei, Hawaii), Jeff Pelarde (Moreno Valley, Calif.), Eli Patrick (Klamath Falls, Ore.) and Jesse Dorado (Perris, Calif.) will join the men’s programs, while Elissa Brouillard (Redmond, Ore.) and Kelly Coash (Phoenix, Ore.) signed with the women.
“On both sides we feel like we have added great depth to our cross country teams along with the distance events with track and field.”
Brouillard is expected to add a charge to the fall women’s team, where the incoming freshman boasts a 5:16.8 time in the 1500, along with an 11:26.8 in the 3K and 20:50 in the 5K event. Coash, a recent graduate of Phoenix High School, is at 5:23.7 in the 1500 and 20:22 in the 5K and should have immediate impact to the women’s cross and track teams.
Two transfers will add experience to the men’s side where Pelarde (Riverside JC) has eclipsed national qualifying marks on the track, including 14:50 in the 5K. Pelarde also comes in with a personal best of 3:56 in the 1500 meter race and 25:02 in the 8K. Dorado (Valley City State University) adds depth to Tech’s pack dynamics where the junior clocked in at 26:09 in the 8K and 32:25 in the 10K runs.
Incoming freshman adding important pieces to Tech’s growing distance squads are Crompton (Hood River HS), Shirey (Kapolei HS) and Patrick (Klamath Institute). Shirey recorded personal best times in the 800 meter at 2:01.72, 1500 meter race in 4:15.99 and 17:00 in the 5K. In the 5K Crompton clocked a personal best of 17:39 in the 5K event, while Patrick ran a 52.18 in the 400 meters and 2:04.78 in the 800 meter event.
“It’s been a great start to this years’ recruiting class, and we expect to have a pool of hard working athletes on both sides to give us much improvement over last year.” Kegg said.
