Oregon Tech Opens Conference Play with Win at Corban, 73-59

SALEM, Ore. – Oregon Tech used a 13-3 run over the final five minutes of the opening period to take a 14 point lead into the half, on the way to a 73-59 win over Corban University to open up Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action tonight at C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
Oregon Tech moves to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in the CCC standings, while Corban fell to 2-4 and 0-1 in conference play.
After trailing 7-4, Oregon Tech would use an 8-0 run to secure a five-point lead, 12-7, and the Owls would never trail. Tech would extend the lead to nine points, 27-18, on back-to-back free throws by Derek Evans before Corban pulled to within four points, 27-23, on a 5-0 run with just under five minutes left. Over the final five minutes, Oregon Tech would use a 13-3 run en route to securing a 40-26 advantage at halftime.
The second half would see Oregon Tech hold a double-digit lead throughout, as the Owls increased their lead to as much as 20 points, 73-53, on a lay-in by Alex Zerbach with 2:32 on the clock. Over the final two-and-a-half minutes, Corban would score the game's final six points but could not overcome Tech’s lead settling for the final 73-59 margin.
Mihajlo Matic finished with a game-high 15 points, including a 5-for-9 effort from long range, to lead the Tech offense. Jordan Kiely added 11 points with Alex Zerbach recording a double-double with 10 points and 12 board in the win for the Hustlin’ Owls.
For Corban Jordan Carter finished with a team-high 12 points with the Warriors getting 9 points each from Jacob Kopra and Andrew Evans.
The Owls finished 43.4% shooting (25-for-59), while connecting on 14-of-31 (45.2%) from the 3-point line. Tech outrebounded the Warriors 40-30.
