Oregon Tech Drops Pair of One-Run Games to Open CU Tournament

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech stranded 13 runners and Puget Sound University scored all the runs they needed in the fifth inning as the Owls fell to the Loggers, 3-2, in game 1 of the Concordia University Tournament, while game 2 with the Owls and Pacific Lutheran went to extra innings with the Lutes winning 5-4 with a run in the bottom of the 10th.
In game 1 Craig Kathol scattered seven hits and struck out five batters in the tough loss on the mound. In game 2 Talon Sisley recorded the loss allowing two hits and a run in the extra inning.
Oregon Tech is 5-8 overall and takes on Willamette University and Linfield College tomorrow.
In game 1 Oregon Tech finished with nine hits, including four for extra bases. Jared Nelson tripled, while Aaron Bocchi, Spencer Reed, and Alex Antonaros picked up doubles in the game. Tyson Dahl finished with three hits while driving in both runs for the Owls. Tyler Conklin added two hits for Tech.
The Owls got on the board first with Jared Nelson leading off the fifth with a triple and later scoring on a Tyson Dahl single to make it 1-0.
PSU moved up 3-1 in their next at bat with the Owls pushing across another run in the sixth inning to trail the Loggers, 3-2. Tech's Alex Antonaros doubled with Dahl driving in his second run on another single to pull the Owls to within one run.
The game would end by the same 3-2 score after both teams went scoreless over the next three innings.
In game 2 Oregon Tech scored a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings with PLU plating a single run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to tie it up. The score remained 4-4 before the Lutes earned the 5-4 win with a run in the 10th.
Dylan Rogers finished 3-for-5 at the plate in game 2, including a double. It was the Owls’ only extra base hit in the game. Dustin Norman was 2-for-3 with Nelson, Alex Reynolds and Ryan Hayden adding singles in the game. Reynolds, Hayden, Conklin and Bocchi drove in a run each for Tech.
