03.03.2013
IRVINE, Calif. – Oregon Tech battled back from a two-run deficit in the opener to force extra innings, eventually losing in the 13th, while a five-run first inning by Concordia-Irvine in game 2 was too much to overcome as the Owls dropped a pair of NAIA baseball doubleheaders to the Eagles this afternoon (3-2, 8-6).
Tech falls to 7-12 overall and next travels to Portland to take on Concordia University to open NAIA West conference baseball action this weekend.
Trailing 2-0 after six innings in today’s opener, the Owls tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. After CU-Irvine failed to score in their next two at-bats the game went to extra innings.
Tech would fail to plate a run in their next four tries, while CU executed a one-out squeeze to win the game in the 13th inning by a 3-2 score.
Dylan Rogers finished 3-for-6 at the plate, including a double, while Tyson Dahl, Ryan Hayden and Tyler Conklin added a pair of hits each. Spencer Reed drove in the Owls’ only run in the game as Tech would strand 12 runners in the opener. BJ Wilson scattered seven hits, struck out three and allowed just two runs in the no-decision. Darian Benanua (1-1) recorded the loss for the Owls.
Oregon Tech never recovered from a five-run first inning by the home team, falling 8-6 in the seven inning game 2 affair.
Trailing 5-0 after the opening frame, Oregon Tech scored a pair of runs in each of the second, fourth and seventh innings, failing to catch the Eagles as the Owls fell by an 8-6 score.
