Oregon Tech Opens NAIA West Baseball Action with Losses at Concordia

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech was the victim of a walk-off single in game 1, while Concordia’s Jon Yearout tossed a complete-game 2-hitter in the nightcap as the Owls dropped the season opening NAIA West Region doubleheader played at Porter Park on Saturday in Portland. The two teams will complete the series with a second doubleheader on Sunday with the opening pitch set for 11 a.m.

Game 1 - The Owls opened the scoring in their first at-bat only to see Concordia plate single runs in their half of the first and second innings to move up 2-1.  Oregon Tech tied the game in the fifth and regained a lead in the 7^th only to see the Cavaliers push a pair across in the bottom of the ninth inning to win game 1 by a 4-3 score.

Tyler Conklin earned a bases loaded walk to put the Owls up 1-0 in the opening frame.  

Dylan Rogers scored in the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2.  Rogers doubled and later scored on Conklin’s second RBI, a two-out single to left field, before CU got a strikeout to end the inning.

In the seventh inning Oregon Tech’s Ryan Hayden doubled to lead off the inning.  Aaron Bocchi, in a pinch hit role, singled through the left side to score Hayden and give the Owls a 3-2 lead.  A pop out and ground out would end Tech’s rally. 

CU, however, in their last at-bat would win the game, 4-3, after the Cavaliers used three hits to push across a pair of runs.

Game 2 – It was all Jon Yearout, as the Owls mustered just two hits in the nightcap.  Concordia scored single runs in the second and fifth innings, with a pair of runs in the eighth put the home team up 4-0, winning by the same score.

Tech’s Jared Nelson singled in the third inning for the first hit of the game for the visitors, while Dylan Rogers recorded the second hit with a single in the seventh inning.
