Oregon Tech Opens Track & Field Season at Lane Invite

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon Tech men’s and women’s track and field squad combined to bring home top-honors in seven events as the Owls opened up their outdoor season at the Lane Invitational in Eugene this Friday and Saturday.

Kassi Conditt and Joelle Swanson started where they left off just a year ago as Conditt recorded a mark of 42-11.5 in the shot put and Swanson went 132-08 in the javelin as the duo competed on Friday.

Saturday’s field event winners were Shannelle Cayetano and Keith Lester.  Cayetano went 11-00.25 in the pole vault, while Lester, fresh off All-American status at the NAIA Indoor Championships, finished with a leap of 44-10.75 in the triple jump and went 21-00.5 in the long jump. Cayetano's mark is a new Oregon Tech school-record with Lester now ranking No. 3 all-time.  Newcomer Katey Choukalos added a third place in the long jump with a mark of 17-03.5.  Choukalos jump ranks her No. 8 on the all-time list.

On the track Ashley Baldovino and Katie Waugh earned top honors as Baldovino was the top college finisher in the 1500 with a time of 4:53.5 and is now No. 3 at Oregon Tech all-time.  Waugh added a first place in the 800 meter race crossing in 2:19.71, while teammate Mary Matchett followed with a third place finish in 2:24.35.
