Oregon Tech Sweeps by Mountaineers

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech used a 12-hit attack to win game 1, while Jess Plummer connected for a fifth inning grand slam to end game 2 by the mercy rule, as the Owls swept Eastern Oregon University in Cascade Collegiate Conference softball action, 9-3 and 13-1.

Oregon Tech improves to 20-5 overall and 4-0 in the conference standings.
Taylor Schmidt improved to 11-1 in the circle for Tech after tossing nine-hit complete game in the opener. Schmidt struck out five allowing three runs. Rylee Carleton moved to 9-4 after tossing four innings in game 2 allowing just three hits, one run and striking out two Mountaineers.
The Owls jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game 1 and held on for a 9-3 win. Shauna Collins and Taylor Schmidt recorded three hits each with Collins and Melissa Logan driving in two runs each. Schmidt added a RBI in the win.
Logan got the Owls going in game 2 with her second homerun of the season, a two-run shot in the second inning. The Owls used five hits in the third inning to tack on four runs and made it 8-0 after a two-run fourth inning.
EOU scored their only run in their half of the fourth, before Plummer launched her 10th homerun of the year, a grand slam, to make it 13-1. Logan pitched the final inning, allowing one hit and no runs, as Tech defeated EOU by the same score due to the mercy rule.
Plummer drove in four on her homerun, with Alyssa Davis, Schmidt and Logan adding two RBI each. Sara Coates, Ashley Sfetku and Kayla Prock plated a run apiece. Oregon Tech got two hits each from McKenzie Shrum, Davis, Coates, Schmidt and Sfetku.
Oregon Tech opens their home slate this weekend when the Owls host Concordia University and Northwest College in CCC action of Friday and Saturday at the Softball Complex on the campus of Oregon Institute of Technology.
