KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Defending Cascade Collegiate Conference champion Oregon Tech settles in at the No. 9 spot in the 2013 NAIA Softball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll, the national office announced recently. The Owls, who captured the 2011 National Championship, went 41-8 a year ago and became the first Tech team to earn back-to-back national tournament berths, earned 393 points in the preseason poll.

Head Coach Greg Stewart, entering his ninth season with the Owls, will lean on senior pitcher Taylor Schmidt and junior shortstop Shauna Collins to help get the Owls a third-straight conference title and third trip to the NAIA national championships this May.

Schmidt was chosen as the 2012 Cascade Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year, along with being named to the NFCA All-Region Team and a 2012 NAIA All-American Second-Team selection.  Schmidt becomes the 11th NAIA All-American for the Owls with the award. Collins was a first-team all-conference and Gold Glove recipient last year, while also earning NAIA All-Tournament accolades in 2011.
