Jason Corwin - Head Volleyball Coach

Oregon Tech Athletic Director Michael Schell announced that Jason Corwin of Springfield, Oregon will lead the Oregon Tech volleyball program into the upcoming 2010 season.

“Jason has an outstanding background in volleyball and will be a great fit for our program,” said Schell. “Jason is very determined at getting our volleyball program back on top of the Cascade Conference standings immediately, and will do an outstanding job for us. The team is extremely excited for the upcoming season.”

Corwin, who has taught Health and Physical Education in the Springfield area for the past five years, beat out a very strong field of over 80 applicants. Corwin has experience at both the club and high school level where his teams have excelled each season. In both 2007 and 2008, Corwin co-coached with Didier Hemelsoat, where the duo led the 18 Gold Webfoot Juniors volleyball club, achieving a 3rd place CEVA finish in 2008. Corwin is currently heading the 18 Silver squad, where his team is currently ranked 17th in CEVA competition.

In both 2007 (with coach Hemelsoat) and 2009, Corwin led Thurston High School to two Midwestern League championships, while adding a 2nd place finish in 2008. Corwin has also led the Colts to three-consecutive 6th place finishes (2007, 2008 and 2009) at the Oregon State 5A volleyball tournament, while also named Midwestern League Coach of the Year after leading the Colts to an undefeated league record in 2009.

“I am very excited about the prospect of coaching at Oregon Institute of Technology and want to thank Mike Schell for showing his confidence in what I want to accomplish here at Oregon Tech.” Corwin continued, “I have been fortunate enough to step into a program with some excellent players, terrific students, and wonderful people who have represented this school very well. It is clear to me that the future of this program is very bright and I am very happy that Klamath Falls will be home for me and my family.”

Corwin graduated from Western Oregon University in 1999 with a BA in History, while gaining his Master of Teaching degree from Pacific in 2004. Jason and his wife of 17 years, Katie, have two children, Haley (14) and Carson (9).

Assistant Coaches

Assistant Coach Jared Boyer

Jared Boyer begins his second season as an assistant for the Oregon Tech volleyball squad in 2011.

Boyer began his volleyball career at age 11 and experienced his first championship competition after leading the 1996 York Juniors to an appearance at Nationals, eventually receiving a tryout for the Junior National team in Baltimore. Boyer was also a three year varsity letter-winner at Dallastown High School during that time.

Boyer moved on to Penn State University, competing at the club level from 1998 through 2001, and became president and captain of the 1999 team, while leading the 2000 squad to a fourth place finish at Nationals. In 2000, Boyer began a men’s USAV “A” level team that competed for the next four seasons, ultimately leading the team to a fifth place showing by seasons end.

Continuing on, Boyer played doubles in East Coast volleyball tournaments at an open level from 2000 to 2007 and during the same time, was the assistant volleyball coach at Dallastown High in 2004 ending in 2009. Boyer also attended several Penn State volleyball camps, hosted by Russ Rose and Mark Pavlik that continued to fuel his knowledge. Boyer then became the head coach for the Yorktown Girls Volleyball club, leading the 17U team to a seventh place finish in the East Coast championships.

Jared moved to the Klamath Basin in 2010 with his wife, Leah, and daughter Sienna, six months.
