(Ashland, Ore.) – Playing in a rare non-conference match-up against perennial conference powerhouse and the 5th ranked team in the country, Concordia University in its season opener was more than Oregon Tech could handle as the Lady Owls fell 6-0 at University Field on the campus of Southern Oregon University.
It took the Cavs only 7 minutes to get on the scoreboard as Ashley Ames took a pass from Hannah Kimsey and scored from 18 yards out giving Concordia a 1-0 lead at the 6:52 mark
The two teams would battle over the next 35 minutes before the Cavs took a 2-0 lead right before the half as Annika Hayman scored off a pass from Alex Blalock in the 43rd minute.
Three minutes into the second half, Erin Huisingh, notched her third goal of the young season with an assist credited to Hannah Scott.
The Cavs created another 18 shots in the second half, finishing with a 36-3 total advantage in that department. Alicia Alarcon and Mackenna Morton added the final two scores for the Cavaliers in the final minute of play. Hayman recorded two assists in the second half to add to her early goal.
Making the start, Nicole Franklin (Hillsboro, Ore./Century H.S.) stopped one shot in goal and picked up the win. OIT keeper Rebekah Matteri came up with 13 saves on the day while Rebekah Nisbet posted all three of the team's shot attempts, including one on goal in the first half.
Oregon Tech will try to rebound this Monday playing Bethesda University in its home opener starting at 1:00pm at Steen Sport Park. The game will be followed by the Oregon Tech Men and Bethesda playing in the season opener for both teams.
