Oregon Tech Opens CCC Play with 73-65 Win at Corban

SALEM, Ore. – Kassi Conditt recorded a double-double to lead the Owls and Oregon Tech took tonight’s Cascade Collegiate Conference opener at Corban University, 73-65, at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Arena at CU.
Oregon Tech moves to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in CCC play. CU falls to 3-6 on the season and 0-1 in the conference standings.
Corban’s only lead came on their opening possession, as the Owls built a 10 point lead, 15-5, on a Kassi Conditt layup. Tech quickly moved up 23-8 on a Maria Ramirez jumper on a Conditt assist.
Corban would get back to single digits, 25-16, with 5:21 in the opening period, but the Owls would take their largest lead of the half, 33-16, on a Carly Leveque free throw and take a 15 point lead, 35-20, into intermission.
Colleen Hunt got the Owls off to a good start in period 2, hitting a baseline jumper on Tech’s opening possession, as the Owls eventually took their largest lead of the night on a Nicole Aboumrad driving layup to make it 59-35 with just over 11 minutes to play.
Corban, however, wouldn’t go away easily using an 18-3 run over the next 9 minutes to cut their deficit to 9 points, 62-53, with under two minutes remaining. The Owls would sink 11 free throws and ice the game for Tech winning by a 73-65 count.
Kassi Conditt dominated play finishing with 14 points and 16 rebounds on a 6-for-7 effort from the floor. Nicole Aboumrad added 16 points, including 10 from the charity stripe with Maria Ramirez tacking on 12 and Karissa Dixon 10 in the win for Tech.
Tess Bennett led the Warriors with 14 points with Emily Tsugawa and Jade Lowery adding 11 each in the loss for CU.
The Owls shot 41% from the field on 25-of-61 and connected on 21-of-30 free throw attempts, most in the last two minutes of the game. Corban was held to 38.6% overall (27-of-70) with Oregon Tech holding a slight edge in rebounding 44-42.
