Oregon Tech Gains Split at The Master’s

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Oregon Tech’s Craig Kathol pitched seven strong innings and the Owls defeated The Master’s College in extra innings, 3-2, in today’s nightcap to earn a split over the Mustangs.  TMC scored eight unanswered runs in game 1 winning 12-2.

Oregon Tech takes a 7-10 overall mark to Concordia University – Irvine in a doubleheader scheduled for Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.

Aaron Bocchi connected for his first homerun of the season in the second inning of game 2 to put Tech up 2-0.  TMC scored single runs in the fourth and again in the last inning to force extra innings.

With Tech up to bat and tied 2-2 in the eighth inning of the scheduled seven inning affair, a Dylan Rogers single scored Ben Krueger, pinch running for Alex Reynolds, who doubled earlier in the inning.  Rogers’ RBI proved to be the game winner after PJ Vanemmerik tossed the final inning to earn his first save of the season. 

Craig Kathol (1-3) went seven innings, allowing just six hits while striking out three to earn his first victory of the season. Rogers finished 3-for-4 in the game, including the game-winning hit, with Bocchi driving in a pair on his homerun.  Reynolds’ double was the only other extra base hit for Tech in the game. 

Game 1 - After three at-bats the Owls trailed just 2-1 in the opener, but the Mustangs rallied for eight-straight runs, including a five-run fourth eventually winning by a 12-2 score.  The Owls plated single runs in both the third and sixth innings.

Dylan Rogers recorded two hits, including a double and RBI, with Spencer Reed adding Tech’s other RBI on a triple.  Talon Sisley fell to 1-2 on the mound with the loss, allowing 11 hits and nine earned runs.
