Tech Cross Country Men 5th, Women 8th in Preseason Rankings

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Heading into the 2012 cross country campaign, the Oregon Tech women’s team is ranked 8
th, while the men earned a 5
th place showing in the 2012 Cascade Collegiate Conference coaches preseason poll, announced recently by the conference office.
The College of Idaho women earned all 10 first place votes and are the unanimous selection by the CCC coaches to win the 2012 team title.
The Yotes earned 100 points to secure the number one spot and were followed by Northwest Christian with 82 points. Concordia and Southern Oregon rounded out the top four with 79 and 73 points respectively. Eastern Oregon (64), Northwest (43), and Corban (40) were picked fifth through seventh with Oregon Tech (39), Warner Pacific (19),and Evergreen (11) filling the final three spots.
On the men’s side, Southern Oregon University earned a perfect 100 points to secure the number one spot and was followed by The College of Idaho with 86 points. Concordia University and Eastern Oregon rounded out the top four with 79 and 75 points respectively. Oregon Tech (54), Corban (50), and Northwest Christian (40) were slated fifth through seventh with Warner Pacific (31), Northwest (25), and Evergreen (10) filling the final three spots.
Oregon Tech’s 2012 cross country teams will host Northwest Christian University on Saturday, September 15th at the Steen Sports Complex, as the Owls run at home for the first time since the 2010 season. Tech’s seven meet schedule begins on Saturday, September 8th in Sacramento at the Hornet Invitational and will close out the year at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship in Portland on November 3rd. The CCC Championships will be held at Lents Park in Portland, Ore. where Warner Pacific College will serve as the host school. The winner of the meet will earn the automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships held in Vancouver, Washington on November 17th.
