Lady Owls Rally Past Humboldt State
Oregon Tech's Karly LeVeque Ties up Kersey Wilcox of Humboldt in 100-89 2OT Exhibition Win
ARCATA, Calif. – Oregon Tech rallied from a 15-point, second half deficit to post a 100-89 win over Humboldt State University in an exhibition game as both teams opened up the 2013-2014 season.
Kassi Conditt and Karly LeVeque each had a double-double leading the Lady Owls as they rallied from a 15 point second half deficit to eventually take a 5 point lead late in regulation. The Jacks however would have a rally of their own to tie the game and send it to overtime. Each team would only score 9 points in the first overtime sending the game to a second 5-minute extra period. Oregon Tech would dominate the 2nd OT out-scoring HSU 18-7 to win 100-89.
Leading 24-22 with three minutes left in the first half, HSU outscored Oregon Tech, 10-3, for a 34-25 intermission score.
In the opening minutes of the second stanza, the Jacks' advantage grew to 15 points, 44-29, on a Jessica Johnson three-pointer.
The Owls keep whittling away at the margin for all of the middle of the half until a 10-0 run took them from five points down, 63-58, into the lead by the same difference, 68-63, with 1:41 left in the contest.
Oregon Tech led by six points, 71-65, with a half minute left, before two three’s and two free throws sent the game into overtime at 73-73.
The first overtime had 5 ties as neither team could separate themselves from the other.
Oregon Tech then dominated the second overtime 18-7 for the 100-89 win.
Conditt finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds both game highs for Oregon Tech who had 5 players in double figures in scoring as Karissa Dixon had 22 points with LeVeque adding 17 points and 10 boards followed by 11 points each from Carrie Thibault and freshman Ashleigh Vandenbrink making her Oregon Tech debut.
The Lady Owls will continue with its next 5 games on the road against, Holy Names, UC Merced, University Of Oregon, William Jessup and The Masters College before their home opener Tuesday, November 12th at 5:30 PM against Simpson University.
