KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech Head Women’s Basketball coach Scott Meredith announced today the signing of Rachel Martin, a 5-11 guard from Enterprise High School in Redding, California who will join the Lady Owls next fall.
As a junior, Martin recorded 17 double-doubles for the Hornets. She was the recipient of the 2012-13 Record Searchlight “Best Female Athlete of the Year” award, was a Record Searchlight 1st team selection, a Sac River League 1st team selection, and a California Northern Section 1st team selection. She was also an all-league volleyball player and finished 4th in the Northern Section in the 100 high hurdles.
This season, Martin is averaging 10.7 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocks per game for the Hornets. In addition, she has scored over 1000 points and grabbed over 1000 rebounds in 3 years of varsity basketball at Enterprise. This season the Hornets are 21-2 and she has been selected all-tournament in every event played.
“To say I am excited about Rachel choosing Oregon Tech is a huge understatement,” said Meredith. “Rachel is a phenomenal athlete and a very gifted basketball player. Fast, quick and ultra-competitive, I see Rachel transitioning to the pace of the college game right away. A well-known and highly-decorated athlete, Rachel experienced tremendous success in high school and was highly recruited by a number of schools. Rachel is an outstanding student and a very responsible person. She is going to be a dynamic player in this program and our fans are going to enjoy watching her tenacious style of play for years to come.
Martin is the daughter of Mike and Marci Martin of Redding, California and will be majoring in Health Sciences at Oregon Tech in the fall.
