SALEM — Oregon Tech’s Sara Howard eclipsed the school-record by 13 seconds and fielding its first complete team of the season, the Owls’ women's cross country team finished sixth Saturday at the 38th
annual Charles Bowles Invitational at Bush Park.

Sara Howard, competing for the Hustlin' Owls for the first time, was 13th in the women's Gold Race, and covered the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 30.08 seconds. Teammate Ashley Baldovino, running her fastest collegiate time, was 39th.
OIT's women were third among Cascade Collegiate Conference teams at the meet, and finished behind only Northwest Christian and Eastern Oregon. The Hustlin' Owls finished ahead of Concordia and Northwest University, both of those teams receiving votes in the NAIA national rankings.
Running well, too, were the Tech men, beating No. 20 ranked Arizona Christian along with Vanguard who received votes in the NAIA national rankings.
Jeff Pelarde was 20th, and Scott Minor 23rd, in the 8K race, and the OIT men placed 10th in the team race.
Pelarde finished in 25:27.86, and Minor a second behind his teammate.
Unattached runners were the individual races. Matthew Clowes won the men's race in 24:09.43, while Kimber Mattox was the female winner in 17:17.99.
The University of British Columbia won both the men's and women's team titles in the Gold Division, competition that saw 253 men and 199 women finish their races.
There were an additional 382 runners to complete the Cardinal Division, races that were won by teams from the University of Portland men and Oregon State University women.
