(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) – Oregon Tech opened up Cascade Collegiate Conference play Friday afternoon at Steen Sports Park with a 3-0 win over visiting Northwest University on Trevor Derrah Field. The Lady Owls improve to 3-3 on the season and open CCC play at 1-0. The Eagles slip to 1-8-1 on the season and 0-1 in CCC play.
Oregon Tech used a pair of second half goals from Melanie Johnson and a game winning goal from Rebekah Nisbet in the win.
Nisbet put the home team up 1-0 in the 8th minute when she took a free ball, dribbled once, and then delivered a high arching shot from 60 feet out that just eked over the out reached hands of the keeper. That would be the only score in the first half; however the Eagles would have several scoring opportunities but were turned away on 6 different corner kicks and 5 shots on frame.
Johnson scored just 11 minutes into the second half, taking a perfect cross from Meghan Drost and scored in the lower right just 15 feet out to give the Hustlin’ Owls a 2-0 lead.
Johnson was at it again just 4 minutes later, scoring from 20 yards out of a deflection in the top right corner of the goal.
For the game, Northwest out shot Oregon Tech 20-15 with both teams being credited with 8 shot on goal.
In an ironic statistic, Northwest had 13 corner kicks to Oregon Tech’s one.
Both teams continue CCC play Saturday and Sunday, with Oregon Tech hosting Evergreen State (0-4-1) at 3:00pm on Saturday while Northwest travels to Ashland, Ore. to take on Southern Oregon (4-2-1) Sunday at 2:00 pm.
