Student Awards

Oregon Tech students deserve recognition for their achievements, dedication and service.  Any Faculty, Administrator, Staff, or Student may submit a student award nomination letter. You may nominate multiple students for the same award or one student for several awards, and a student may nominate him or herself.

How to Nominate a Student

Meet with the student to inform him/her of your desire to complete a Student Award Nomination.

Letter of Nomination

Write a nomination letter.  Indicate the student’s name and for which student award you are nominating the person. Clearly state how the student meets the student award criteria and why you are nominating the person for this award.  Nomination is only considered for that specific award and not for others; however, you may nominate a student for more than one award with a separate nomination letter.  Criteria for each award are available on this page, under Student Awards Criteria. Include a paragraph or sentence explaining how you know the person you are writing about and the nature of your relationship with them. Also include an evaluation of the student’s skills and accomplishments.

Nomination Letter Deadline: 5:00 pm on April 7, 2016 to Student Affairs: CU 217 (Klamath Falls) or nellie.stewart@oit.edu.

Letter(s) of Recommendation

It is highly encouraged by the Student Awards Commission that the student seek at least one recommendation letter (no more than 5) from a student, staff, faculty, friend or community member.  The letter should express their support for the student award nomination with a few points from the award criteria.  Indicate the student’s name and for which student award you are in support of recommending the person for. Criteria for each award are available on this page, under Student Awards Criteria. Include a paragraph or sentence explaining how you know the person you are writing about and the nature of your relationship with them.

Recommendation Letter(s) & Student Biography Deadline: 5:00 pm on April 21, 2016 to Student Affairs: CU 217 (Klamath Falls) or nellie.stewart@oit.edu

Student Biography

The nominated student must complete the Student Biography form.  This form is a Word document that can be submitted electronically or in hard copy.  The form link is available to the right under Forms.

Recommendation Letter(s) & Student Biography Deadline: 5:00 pm on April 21, 2016 to Student Affairs: CU 217 (Klamath Falls) or nellie.stewart@oit.edu

Nomination Review

The Student Awards Commission will meet in closed sessions to review the merits of each candidate.  Students nominated for the Hiram M. Hunt Science Award or Student Achievement Award may be asked to present to the Student Awards Commission.

Recognition

The awards will be presented at the Student & Alumni Awards Brunch on Friday, June 10, 2016.  All student nominees and award recipients are invited to this event.  If the student you nominated is an award recipient, you (or someone from your department) will be asked to briefly introduce the student to accept the award.
