No person should be discriminated against for any reason regarding race, ethnicity, age, gender,
disability, or sexual orientation. Specifically, discrimination against sexual orientation remains a serious problem for the LGBTQ community. LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning. The Oregon Tech campus provides a program called Safe Campus that works to create a safe, secure environment by promoting inclusiveness and freedom from discrimination and violence.
Oregon Tech encourages all students and faculty members to treat everyone equally and without prejudice. Despite anyone’s views or prejudices, every single person deserves the same rights and equal treatment as others. Hate, including homophobic or transphobic slurs, unequal treatment, and discriminatory acts, will not be tolerated
According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Oregon, “the struggle of LGBT people for full equality is one of this generation’s most important and galvanizing civil rights movements” (LGBT Rights, 2015). Oregon Tech encourages students and staff to become Safezone Allies that support and advocate for the LGBTQ community.
